A mudslide occurred in the small town of Oso, Washington on March 23, reported News.com. The death toll has been reported to increase to 14 with more than 170 missing. Six more bodies were also discovered late Monday evening during the massive mudslide.
According to John Pennington, Snohomish County Emergency Management Director, the disaster hit the small town about 90 kilometers northeast of Seattle. Pennington added that there are 176 people unaccounted after the disaster occurred.
Meanwhile, authorities say that the number of missing people would decline after more are being found safe. News.com. reported that loved ones and family members of those affected by the mudslide used chain saws and even bare hands to lift debris tangled in mud to find their kin.
US President Barack Obama already issued a state of emergency in Washington State following the mudslide incident. Federal aid was also sent to the area, added the report.
