Two firefighters were trapped and killed in a basement following a fire driven by strong winds last Wednesday in Back Bay Neighborhood. Other firefighters failed to help their colleagues, reported The Huffington Post.

The report continued saying thirteen other firefighters were injured during the fire. Several police officials were also brought to hospitals, reported Huffington Post. According to authorities, some residents were rescued from the blazing four story apartment building. No residents have been reported to get hurt.

Mayor Marty Walsh said, "Today's a sad day for the city of Boston. We lost two heroes here today." The two firefighters killed in the incident were Lt. Edward J. Walsh and Michael R. Kennedy. Walsh is an experienced firefighter for almost a decade while Kennedy served his post for more than six years.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Finn, the fire started in the basement and moved quickly through the apartment building. The cause was still not identified but indications show that it was accidental. The strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly, reported Huffington Post.
