Plane crash in Gran Canaria Island, False Alarm

By

According to earlier reports from multiple media outlets, a plane crashed into the sea, a few miles from the Spanish Gran Canaria Island. Few hours later, the report was retracted saying it was false alarm after Spanish officials confirmed the news.

A Spanish media reported that rescue services were heading to the scene after it was said to have crashed near the island. However, according to AENA, Spain’s airports association, a boat was mistaken to be a plane. This resulted confusion if there was indeed a plane crashing into the sea, reported BBC News.

The false alarm created confusion after views of a tug boat transporting a huge object while at sea. According to BBC News, the pictures that were taken on shore showed a large white structure from a distance. This was said to resemble the fuselage of an aircraft.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that The Canary Islands emergency services confirmed that the tug boat was mistaken for an aircraft. According to tweets from @controllers, a local Spanish Twitter user, “In the sea there is a towing another boat carrying a crane. In the distance it looked like a plane, but it is not. False alarm. The similarity of these ships with an aircraft has been such that even several drivers were confused.”
