After 20 years of complete attendance in the Masters game, this would be Tiger Woods’ first time to miss it, reported ESPN. The golfer confirmed through his Twitter post that he would not be able to make it as an impending surgery for his back was due earlier this week. The news was also posted on his website adding that his back pains had been severe in the last months.
On Monday, a microdiscectomy was performed by Dr. Charles Rich in Park City Utah which resulted to Woods missing out the Masters. Dr. Rich said the golfer would start "intensive rehabilitation and soft-tissue treatment.” This would occur within a week with a goal for him to get back to the game "sometime this summer."
In a statement Woods said, "After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done."
He added, "I'd like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters. It's a week that's very special to me. It also looks like I'll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy."
On his Twitter post @TigerWoods he tweeted, “Sad to say I’m missing the Masters. Thanks to the fans for so many kind wishes.”
