A powerful earthquake hit Chile on Tuesday. This was according to a CNN reported that added saying the strong shaker would cause landslides and a tsunami. The earthquake occurred late Tuesday and was recorded to be at 8.2 magnitude.
According to the Interior Minister of Chile Rodrigo Penailillo, there were five recorded death toll due to the earthquake. Two of the victims died due to heart attacks while the other three were crushed. Meanwhile, there were 300 inmates who have escaped following the earthquake.
A data from the US Geological Survey said that the earthquake occurred 60 miles of Inquique’s northwest, around 8:46 p.m. local time.
A statement was released by the National Emergency Office of Chile saying, "The fact is, we will know the extent of the damage as time goes by and when we inspect the areas in the light of day,"
Earlier on Wednesday, President Michelle Bachelet said, "The country has faced these first emergency hours very well."
