Philippine actress Anne Curtis was reported to have been stung by a box jellyfish. The incident happened while she was shooting an episode for a TV show last April 2, Wednesday. The young actress was given immediate treatment at St. Luke’s Medical Center. This was according to multiple media outlets’ reports adding the actress was lucky to have survived the sting.
The actress sent out a message on social media Twitter assuring her fans of her medical condition. Wide rashes were spread in a portion of her body and doctors were at close watch of her heart’s state. According to the tweet, Curtis said "Been reading up on the box jellyfish and I'm lucky it wasn't fatal. This summer, be careful when swimming in the ocean [and] keep [an] eye out.”
According to LiveScience, a sting from a box jellyfish can cause a person’s heart to stop beating. The report also added that hundreds of people have died yearly from the poisonous sting of the box jellyfish. Meanwhile, the US National Science Foundation said that around 20 to 40 people lose their lives over a box jellyfish sting in the Philippines alone.
