The 20th FIFA World Cup, the biggest single-event sporting competition in the world, will head to the exotic cities of Brazil for the second the time in world cup history. The event will kick start at Sao Paulo on June 12 featured by a match between the home team Brazil against Croatia. From there on in, it will be a full month of nothing but world class football madness!
The world cup 2014 qualifiers include national teams from 31 different countries around the world. From June 12 to July 13 2014, football fans will witness a total of 64 matches that will be held in 12 cities across Brazil including world renowned tourist hubs Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Brasilia, from Groups to Finals. And for the first time in a World Cup event, every game will utilize goal-line technology.
FIFA world cup tournaments have only been won by eight different national teams so far. The home team Brazil has won the tournament 5 times - a current record best - followed by Italy having four, Germany three, Argentina and Uruguay two, and England, France, and Spain, with a title each of their own. With all 8 world champion teams qualifying for the 2014 FIFA world cup, the tournament has the makings of the ages.
Spain will look to defend their title - having won their first title in a thrilling 1-0 game against the Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final - against other football powerhouses.
The five time world cup champions and home team Brazil have high hopes that they will once again hoist the trophy and this time in front of millions of football hungry Brazilians after they failed to do it six decades ago - Brazil, the host country and the heavy favorites to win the tournament, was upset by Paraguay in a historic 1-2 match in the 1950 FIFA World Cup.
However, with Spain expected to give their all in defending their lone title, Germany in excellent groove, and other teams like Portugal and Japan determined to win their first trophy, the 2014 World Cup will not be one to miss!
