Google's release of the Android 4.4 KitKat OS signaled the company's growing efforts to address fragmentation among Android devices. The Android 4.4 KitKat update can be installed to older handsets allowing Google to create a more unified experience. However, the update has also been plagued with bugs and operational problems. Thus, reports about another update surfaced: the Android 4.5. When will the update hit devices and what can people expect?
It took some time before the Android 4.4 KitKat update arrived to different manufacturers. The same may be true for the upcoming mobile operating system update. Depending on the period, Google's OS update can be equated either to mere updates or major changes. For example, the Android 3.0 offered the mobile OS to tablets. In the same way, the Android 4.0 update changed the settings of the interface and allowed Android to become more consistent across different platforms. As mentioned, the Android KitKat update sought to lessen fragmentation across Android platforms.
According to Android Police, the next update from Google may signal an important change. To understand this change, people should look at Hera. Google's Hera is the company's way to guarantee services like Android, Chrome and Search bring a standard or united user experience. It is part of the company's initiative to strengthen its ecosystem and become more competitive against strong players like Apple's iOS. According to the report, Google may be working on a Chromium build that can work on Android devices but also execute tasks for online applications and Google.
In this way, the three Google components become more coherent. Through the Hera initiative, the new Android system can offer commands and snapshots executed in Chromium. This is similar to approach of HTML5. Google will reportedly provide more details during its I/O Conference this coming June 22 to 26. The company has also yet to announce details of another update, the Android 4.4.3.
