ARM-Based Apple Mac with Large Magic Trackpads Coming Soon

Apple's upcoming hardware has always attracted a great deal of attention. Throughout the years, Apple made sure it releases refreshed versions of existing product lines like the Mac. According to reports, the tech giant has been preparing for a whole new set of Macs featuring a different type of chipset. Not only this, Apple may also be planning on brining the ARM processors to other offerings like the iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. Will ARM-based processors make any difference?

MacBidouille reported about Apple's possible processor switch. The French site said that the tech giant has been showing interest over the production of ARM-based Macs. The Macs will also feature a "large format" Magic Trackpad integrated with the keyboard of the device. While Apple has been keen on trying out ARM processors for its Mac series, the company also remains hesitant about pushing through with the switch. There is a chance that a new chipset can hurt the performance and appeal of the Mac lineup.

Apple Insider also reported about Apple's venture into a new operating system that works just like the OS X. The company has created prototypes of the machine already featuring the equivalent OS X interface under ARM. More interestingly, the prototypes were reportedly working using a series of ARM CPUS. Each CPU has multiple cores. Apple also specifically developed an iMac desktop running on 64-bit quad core CPUS according to the report. The iMac mini sample machine, on other hand, features four cores.

Apple did not just stop with the iMacs, it also has started experimenting with a 13-inch MacBook featuring 64-bit quad-core ARM chips. While Apple remains hesitant about the move, the company has done a similar thing in the past when it decided to go for Intel's processor set instead of the PowerPC chips from IBM. The change in processors paid off for Apple as it was able to release faster and better performing devices. Mac sales saw a surge in demand. If Apple can improve the performance of its computers with another processor change then it can further strengthen the company's position in the market.
