Apple made waves in the previous week following its Worldwide Developers Conference. Many consider the revelation of the iOS 8 as the next big launch from Apple following the introduction of the App Store. Instead of just offering new features to users, Apple also revealed that it has been working on opening the platform even more to developers. The introduction of the new features and more coordination with developers promises to be a killer combination for the company.
The 8th installment of Apple's mobile operating system promises to provide a better and more intuitive user experience. For example, Apple iCloud Photo Library guarantees a more fun and convenient platform to manage photos and videos. It also guarantees convenient access depending on the user's preference. The iCloud Photo Library works hand in hand with the Photo App offering people constant access to their media files. People will have an easier time managing their documents across different Apple devices.
The Messaging feature, on other hand, takes inspiration from third party applications like Whatsapp and Snapchat. Now, people can send videos, photos including voice messages in a swipe. This allows Apple to deliver a more immersive messaging experience. People contact other individuals in just a swipe. They can also now remove or add contacts in a group message. More importantly, people can change their status to "do not disturb" to prevent unnecessary messages. Users can also set the location data for a period of time.
Craig Federighi discussed the iOS 8 in a report by The Wall Street Journal. According to Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering: "iOS 8 offers simpler, faster and more intuitive ways to use your device with incredible new features like iCloud Photo Library, a new Messages app, the QuickType keyboard and an entirely new Health app."
"We're also giving developers amazing new tools to make managing your health and your home from your devices an integrated, simple and secure experience." Federighi added.
Joining the likes of Samsung, Apple has also started investing on health introducing the Health App in the iOS 8. The program offers people a more convenient way to access and organize health data. The app gathers information from a variety of sources and collates information for easy access. Some of the information the app can gather include calories burned, body temperature and distance ran.
The QuickType Keyboard is a predictive typing program. It guides users when typing although despite its supposed "innovative" nature, it has been called out for sharing similarities with Android. According to a report by TIME, Apple has taken inspiration from Android's system seemingly offering similar features like the notification center and messaging settings. Jared Newman from TIME said in his article: "Although Apple introduced each feature as if it was brand new, some of iOS 8′s biggest additions have been available in some form on Google's Android platform for years."
