The upcoming 2014 NBA Draft, which is scheduled to start on Thursday June 26, 2014 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, is widely advertised as one of the deepest and most hyped draft class in recent years - drawing comparisons to the 1984 and 2003 draft class of the NBA.
The 1984 class was recognized by many as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, in NBA draft history as it includes NBA legends in Hakeen Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, and of course the greatest to have ever played the game, Michael Jordan. The 2003 draft on the other hand, features most of today's talented super stars and franchise players including Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James.
Here are some of the top prospects that are touted as future super stars in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft.
1. Joel Embiid - C (Kansas - Freshman)
2. Jabari Parker - SF/PF (Duke - Freshman)
3. Andrew Wiggins - SF (Kansas - Freshman)
4. Marcus Smart - PG (Oklahoma State - Sophomore)
5. Noah Vonleh - PF (Indiana - Freshman)
6. Dante Exum - PG/SG (Australian Institute of Sport - International)
7. Julius Randle - PF (Kentucky - Freshman)
8. Doug McDermott - SF/PF (Creighton - Senior)
9. Gary Harris - SG (Michigan State - Sophomore)
10. Aaron Gordon - PF (Arizona - Freshman)
Because the 2014 NBA draft is teeming with talent, their will surely be some steals in the picks even as early as the first round. Their will also be plenty of sleepers, who have the talent and attitude to blossom in the NBA, who are under the radar of NBA scouts. In the end, their will surely be plenty of prizes in the lottery and some NBA seasons from now, we will be able to see which picks have shined the most.
If you look at each team in the NBA, a lot of them have holes. The NBA draft provide these teams the opportunity to fill such holes for relatively cheap contracts. Many of the weaker teams who missed the playoffs - with exception to the tough Western Conference of last season - will have more than one need. Hopefully the upcoming draft class will make each team in the NBA better than they were before.
