"The Big Bang Theory" Season 8 Sets Premiere Date, May Lose a Few Characters [SPOILERS]

By

It's been a long wait since "The Big Bang Theory" had its season finale back in May. But CBS has just revealed when the series will be returning to the airwaves: on Monday, September 22, the series will air its eighth season premiere at 8:00, with another new episode following immediately afterward at 8:30.

With the cast of characters all slowly shedding their geeky ways and moving towards relationships (and, in some cases, marriage), fans have been wondering where Sheldon, Leonard and the rest will be headed in the series' eigth season. Especially considering the events of the seventh season finale, where Sheldon left his friends to "live of the land," albeit while living off credit cards and buying necessities at shopping malls.

The actors are questioning the show's future just as much as the show's fans are. When asked about the future of Sheldon, actor Jim Parsons told TVLine: "nobody will tell me. I don't know if they know yet. They may know, but I really don't know if they do."

As well, when asked about the future of his character's relationship with love interest Amy, Parsons replied: "I don't know that we're headed for the bedroom or the altar any time soon. But, whatever... The writers have been so good with the pace of it, just bring more is all I would say."

One rumor, that Penny's mother would be appearing in the eighth season, was bolstered by a statement from actress Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting in an interview with TVLine. Says Cuoco-Sweeting:

"I don't know what they're going to do, but I have always thought - and I hope this doesn't offend her because I know she's super young, though we know Penny's mom got knocked up very early - that Lisa Kudrow would be so perfect. I've said that for years. I think it would be hilarious, plus I'm a huge fan of hers, so it's a selfish wish.

Whether Sheldon leaves or Penny's mom stays, "The Big Bang Theory" itself is here to stay. The series was recently picked up for three more seasons, taking it all the way to season ten.
