It's been more than ten years since "Friends" was taken off the air- the series finale aired on May 6, 2004. And in these past ten years, fans have been clamoring to see the six amicable New Yorkers reunite for a new series or special.
But according to Matt LeBlanc, who starred as Joey on the hit series, it's never going to happen.
LeBlanc, who was just nominated for an Emmy for his starring turn on Showtime's "Episodes," (his third nomination so far for the series, and sixth in total, having been nominated another three times for his role on "Friends,"), spoke to the LA Times about the possibility of a "Friends" reunion.
""Friends" was probably the greatest 10 years of my life. I'd be hard-pressed to find something that matches that in terms of success and just sheer fun. So anything that harks back to that has a soft spot in my heart.
As far as a reunion project, that's just not in the cards. I think that show was about a finite period in your life -- after college and before you start your family where your friends are your family -- and that's what that show was about. So to go beyond that doesn't feel like you'd do justice to that. I liken it to that saying that the book is always better than the movie. I think it's best to imagine what those characters are doing now versus to see those characters. No one wants to see us in our 40s (laughs). Joey's still struggling as an actor. It'd just be sad."
LeBlanc sounds pretty sure that a reunion is not in the cards.
It's an especially painful note for fans, given the recent hubbub this year about a possible "Friends" reunion, that ended up being a hoax. A fan created the idea for a "The One After the 10 Year Break," episode, along with a few mock-up promotional materials and circulated them around the web.
Fans were furious, but in time they seemed to have cooled down.
LeBlanc is one of the few "Friends" stars to see continued success after the show's end. Another, Jennifer Aniston, is going through some relationship strife, according to a new report.
