NBA Free Agency Rumors: Mavericks, Rockets in pursuit of Mike Miller

By

After the Dallas Mavericks acquired rising small forward Chandler Parsons from the Houston Rockets, the team is reportedly in pursuit for another sharp shooter this summer in the 2014 NBA free agency. The Mavs have already agreed to sign Richard Jefferson for the league minimum - a move to fill the void left by Vince Carter's departure to the Grizzlies - but it appears they want more shooters in their roster.

And the Mavs are not alone. Their in-state rival, the Houston Rockets, are also looking for a sharp shooter and whether its pure coincidence or not, both teams are eying the same player in the name of Mike Miller.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein has reported that the Mavericks and the Houston Rockets have bumped into a Mike Miller sweepstakes. Both teams are looking to add a perimeter-oriented forward in their roster and steal LeBron Jame's sharpshooting teammate from Miami and prevent him from coming to Cleveland - Mike Miller has reportedly expressed a desire to play with LeBron in Cleveland.

Mike Miller, a 14-year veteran and key component in the Heat's championship with LeBron, averaged 7.1 points on 48.1 percent shooting from the field and 45.9 percent from 3-point range in his stint with the Grizzlies last season. Memphis signed Vince Carter this offseason and have been unable to agree in a deal with Miller which means the veteran shooter will likely be heading for another team.

The Denver Nuggets are also reportedly in pursuit of Miller this summer in the free agency period. Denver offered Miller a three-year, $12 million contract, while the Cavs are prepared to make a deal for the veteran shooter for 2 years worth $5.5 million. The Rockets have signed Ariza prior to letting Parson's walk and it is unclear why they are looking to upgrade at the SF position with their point guard and center position looking quite thin after the departure of Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin.

The Denver Nuggets may have the best offer for Miller in terms of number of years and amount of money but Houston, Dallas, and Cleveland, are more positioned to contend for an NBA title which is something that Miller is looking for in the twilight of his career.
