Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D may have fought at first through lukewarm ratings, lack of critical reception, and diminishing viewer returns but the superhero series is all geared now for its second season. In fact, DenofGeeks dishes that ABC has just announced that the new season will premiere on Tuesday, September 23.

Despite early troubles with the show, the series was able to recover during the final third of the debut season thanks to strong storylines that were praised by many critics. Now producers of the show are promising to add more punch to the plot and are even adding some new characters to its cast lineup.

The Christianpost reports that viewers should watch out for a ruggedly handsome and physically fit actor in the next season. As for the role he will play in the series, publications mentioned of "a character who can escape any situation, is a bit of a wild card and, though he's mostly interested in personal gain, always ends up doing the right thing."

IBtimes adds to this by saying that season 2 will not pick up to where the finale left off. Viewers should expect a time jump with Coulson trying to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. by looking for new agents and bringing in some familiar faces.

ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee also shared during the Television Critics Association summer press tour that Coulson's promotion will be the driving force behind season 2's storylines. Moreover, several returning characters have been confirmed as well. Among them are Sky'es ex-boyfriend Miles London and Agent Antoine Triplett played by BJ Britt. According to Executive Producer Jeph Loeb, fans got fond of Britt's character so he will definitely be returning to contribute to the second season.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been moved to a new timeslot so fans of the show should keep their 9 p.m. ET timeslot free from now on.
