Andy Murray apparently popped the question to girlfriend of nine years Kim Sears despite rumors that the two had a fight before the Scottish champ lost a match at Wimbledon. Murray's mother laughed off the rumor of the fight while others say that Murray might have already proposed, though there is no ring to show for it.
According to Mail Online, if the tennis champ hasn't already asked the question, he is "just about to" according to bookies. Betting on his engagement is as high as the bets on the Scottish player retaining his title at 8/1 odds. William Hill, who had been taking bets, had long since closed the betting and a spokesperson says that someone might have seen him buying a ring for the "Kate Middleton of Wimbledon". The spokesperson also said that the odds of Murray getting down on one knee during his acceptance speech are at 33/1.
As Murray plays against his opponents, girlfriend Kim Sears, who is watched by the world for her fashionable outfits, is there to offer support. This is in contrary to what rumors say that the two had gotten into a fight shortly before Murray's game, which led to the player's defeat. According to Murray's mother Judy in an article from KpopStarz, Murray had a bad day and it happens. Judy also went ahead and said that Sears was "the best thing that ever happened to him," which Marie Claire confirms to be her approval of her future daughter-in-law.
According to The Independent, Murray and Sears met at the 2005 US Open and started as friend before dating in 2006, but Murray "has always seemed somewhat resistant to the idea of getting engaged". In January, the tennis star posted a tweet about marrying Sears after Wimbledon 2014, a joke that he was forced to recant later. The Independent also mentions Murray saying that he enjoys time apart from his girlfriend of many years. "If you spend three months in a row together, by the end of it we're like, you know, arguing and stuff," Murray said.
The absence of an engagement ring on Sears' finger upon showing up at Wimbledon is a clue to their current state, but The Independent says that it doesn't mean Murray has not popped the question yet.
