The Miami Heat can no longer boast a 'Big 3' this coming season after LeBron James decided to go back home to Cleveland. Miami can call Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, and Luol Deng their new big trio all they want but the Eastern Conference is very much wide open now that LeBron is no longer with the Heat. Also, the tile for the NBA's 'Best Big Three" is now officially up for grabs.
There are plenty of big trios in the NBA today like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andre guodala of the Golden State Warriors and Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs. There are also newly formed trios this summer due to the movement of players in the free agency like Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis, Chandler Parsons of the Dallas Mavericks and Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Pau Gasol of the Chicago Chicago. But the crown for the Best Big Three in the NBA this coming season goes to Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder star trio has a collective plus -7.4 over 1,209 minutes rating last season according to Bleacherreport.com. That's an impressive number especially if you consider the fact that Westbrook was plagued with injuries last year. The Thunders' three-headed dragon has also proven its playoff mettle when they reached the NBA Finals three years ago and have been consistent in the playoff mix in the tough Western Conference. They reached the NBA Finals for the 3rd time last season but was eliminated by the Spurs, who eventually won the NBA championship in 6 games.li
The Thunders Trio of Durant, Ibaka, and Westbrookis perhaps the most athletic, star studed, and offensively lethal 3-man lineup in the NBA today. And right now they feel like they are ready to take the championship home to OKC after a lot of playoff wars. They are hungry for an NBA title and they have the talent and experience that can take them there.
Here is what Durant thinks of their core in OKC:
With the Thunder, we all have the mindset that we want to get better and keep growing, but we also know that we want to win championships. We know we have to continue to keep working and we're putting in that work to be the best. I like what we got. Russell [Westbrook], myself and Serge [Ibaka]-I like our core. We added some young guys and added some vets. I like what we got.
