NBA free agent 2014 News: Ray Allen to the Cleveland Cavaliers? Mulls LeBron teamup in Cleveland

By

While the talent in the Cleveland Cavaliers roster is undeniable, the team has yet to see any playoff action since 2010 after LeBron James decided to join forces with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. But now that King James is back with the team, things are expected to turn into a positive direction.

With their current roster structure, the Cavaliers nonetheless have two glaring weaknesses: veteran experience and 3-point shooting, Bleacher Report said. Thankfully, both weaknesses have been remedied by the signing of veteran swing man Mike Miller. The Cavs need more of the likes of Miller if they want to make a deep run in the playoffs.

The Cavs are in luck as it seems that Ray Allen is considering one more run with his buddy LeBron. After spending two consecutive NBA finals appearances, which include an NBA championship with James in Miami, the Miami Heat sharpshooter is reportedly considering teaming up with LeBron in Cleveland.

"Former Celtic and Heat standout Ray Allen is leaning towards returning for a 19th NBA season and joining former teammate LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to a league source," Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe tweeted.

At 39 years old, health remains the single biggest factor for Ray Allen this summer. He told reporters during his tour in China that he intends to undergo physical examinations on both his knees before he makes a decision. This means that LeBron and the Cavs will have to wait for the results of the tests before they get all excited in the prospect of pairing Ray Allen with James for the second time around.

Both the Cavs and Ray Allen could benefit well from each other should a union transpire. Ray Allen, the No.1 three point shooter in the history of the NBA, remains one of best in the business when it comes to shooting from deep especially in clutch situations even at his advance age. SB Nation explains that a creative ball handler like James and Kyrie Irving should love playing alongside a lethal shooter like Allen hovering behind in the 3-point area. Likewise, Allen would benefit greatly from James and Kyrie, who are one of the best when it comes to penetrating in the lane, as it would likely give him plenty of open looks. Cleveland also has a handful of fresh legs in Dion Waiters and Andrew Wiggins at shooting guard that would further ease the burden on Allen.
