Simon Kinberg has been very busy lately with working on big-scale projects including Fantastic Four and Star Wars. But what seems to be his greatest challenge is working on with his staple X-Men franchise. The next movie X-Men: Apocalypse is currently underway, with the success of the "Days of the Future Past" making fans from all over the world excited for the next installment.
In an interview with Latino Review, Kinberg discussed the planned villain for the next X-Men movie, Apocalypse. The character is an ancient mutant with exceptionally strong powers.
Kinberg and director Bryan Singer are also working hard on the characters of the Four Horsemen, which are followers of Apocalypse.
One thing that would likely surprise fans of the franchise since its inception 14 years ago is the possible twist in Hugh Jackman's character Wolverine.
In an interview with IGN, Jackman expressed his excitement about the future of the characters. He also hinted that he could go a different direction with it. He said, "At one point, you're right, I said I was pretty sure. But I'm less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever."
"And during this movie...I don't want to spoil anything, but it's kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it's going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me," Jackman continued.
Kinberg has always expressed his willingness to have Jackman in the X-Men movie. "I don't personally have a contingency plan for him leaving the franchise because I can't imagine him leaving the franchise. I'm building these movies just as I assume I have Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, I have Hugh Jackman as well," Kinberg said.
"So until he literally calls me from the hospital and says 'I can't do it anymore' I will continue to put him in these movies," he concluded.
X-Men: Apocalypse is slated to release in theaters May 27, 2016.
