It was previously reported that "Star Trek 3" is set to be released by Paramount and Skydance on the series' 50th anniversary in 2016. Recent reports, however, claim that fans might have to wait a little longer to see movie hit the theaters, Kpopstarz reports.
Reports claim that "The Amazing Spiderman 2" scribe Roberto Orci will be replacing J.J. Abrams as the director for Star Trek 3. In an interview, Orci announced that he is currently waiting for Paramount' go-signal for the sequel.
"Well, I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch. The studio has yet to even read the script," said Orci.
The director also gave some updates on the writing and some details on the talented team he is working with. "I'm in the middle of writing it, with the talented team of [J.D.] Payne and [Patrick] McKay. They are true Star Trek fans, as well. So, I can't even think anything about the future until I give them a script and they greenlight it. Until that happens, everything else is just a rumor."
Both J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are newbie writers.
Meanwhile several names have been confirmed to be out of the project. Aside from Abrams, "Attack the Block" director Joe Cornish and producer and co-writer Alex Kurtzman are officially dropping out of Star Trek 3.
Kurtzman previously announced that he will not be able to be part of the movie because he is currently working on some projects.
Damon Lindelof who co-wrote the script of "Star Trek Into Darkness" will not be part of the sequel of the sci-fi movie, as well.
Kurtzman and Lindelof co-wrote the first two installments of the reboot will Orci. According to Hollywood Reporter, the third instalment will show the characters "closer to the original series characters."
"They have set off on their five-year mission, so their adventure is going to be in deep space," Orci said.
The next Star Trek film has no title and release date yet. The movie will star Chris Payne, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana.
