Despite being a first-world country, the United States still has some cities that have logged high crime rates, with crimes ranging from rape, armed robbery, gang related crime, serious assault. It was observed in the latest Uniform Crime Report released by FBI and as published on Lawstreetmedia.com, one of the many factors attributed to the high crime rates is insufficient police funding.
According to the FBI list, Detroit is still the most dangerous place to live in fourth year in a row. This list is based on a nationwide statistical report from data retrieved from more than 18,000 cities, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The list only includes densely populated cities of over 200,000 people.
Below are ten of the most dangerous cities to live in the United States.
10. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Population: 599,395
Violent Crime Rate: 1294.47 per 100,000 people
Crime rates in this place have been rising on a quick pace over the recent years. According to recent statistics, its average crime rate is at 64 per 1,000 residents.
9. Atlanta, Georgia
Population: 437,041
Violent Crime Rate: 1379.05 per 100,000 people
The city is popular for its illegal drug trafficking cases in the East coast. What's most alarming is that the city had a rate of 521 robbers in every 100,000 people.
8. Cleveland, Ohio
Population: 393,781
Violent Crime Rate: 1,383.76 per 100,000 people
The city gained international attention last year when three young women were freed after being held captive for more than three years by a serial rapist/abuser in a neighborhood. The city has a crime rate of over 76 in every 1,000 residents, making it as one of the dangerous place to live in.
7. Baltimore, Maryland
Population: 625,474
Violent Crime Rate: 1405.71 per 100,000 people
According to a known drug circuit, Maryland is known as the "Heroin Capital of the Country," ABC News reported. The average crime rate in Baltimore is around 65 in every 1,000 residents. Violent crimes are very common within the city limits, and common crimes commited are aggravated assault, murder,robberies and forcible rape.
6. Birmingham, Alabama.

Murder Rate: 31.42 per 100,000 people
Although some Americans consider living in this southern city because of its quaint scenery, statistics show that Birmingham is home to one of the highest crime rates in the entire country.
5. Stockton, California
Population: 299,195
Violent Crime Rate: 1547.95 per 100,000 people
According to Business Insider, the issues of high crime rates in this city has a connection with its declaration of bankruptcy in 2012. About 24 in 100,000 people are affected y crime rates in the country, while there are 520 robberies per 100,000 people.
4. Memphis, Tennessee
Population: 657,436
Violent Crime Rate: 1,750. 28 per 100,000 people
The city continues to struggle with its high poverty rates despite being the "Birthplace of Rock and Roll" thanks to Elvis Presley, Business Insider said. The city recorded 20 murders in every 100,000 people in a year, while there are 514 robberies in every 100,000 people.
3. St. Louis, Missouri

This city is known for its fairly large population despite of its small land area. This makes one of the biggest contributing factors of its high crime rates.
