Before S5, S4, and Note 3 have taken the stage, there was Samsung Galaxy S3 as Samsung's flagship phone with an interface 'inspired by nature' and 'designed for humans.' Years later, with its highly commercialized successors, S3 is struggling to get back on its feet in the android landscape, and updating it with the latest software Android Kitkat 4.4.4 may be Samsung's lesser priorities as of now.
In June, Google released two important updates to Android Kitkat 4.4 OS. Android 4.4.2 KitKat got replaced by Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4, and this proved to be the solution to the bug problems of the former, reported GottaBeMOBILE.
However, it has been well over two years since Galaxy S3 has been outdated, so there's a high probability that the S3, together with Note 2 are more or less done for. Just a few months ago, LG G2 stepped down from the limelight, but it is assumed to be in a better position to get the Android Kitkat 4.4.4 update as compared to S3 and Note 2, wrote AndroidOrigin.
Also, it is noteworthy that the flagship phones S5, Note 3, and LG G3 that are popular in the market today do not run yet in Android Kitkat 4.4.4. Thus, Samsung and LG may postpone the updates for their phones, and S3 and Note 2 would still run with their current system for at least a year until the coming of Android L which will have the latest software.
All these reports proved one thing for now: that the update of S3 with Android Kitkat 4.4.4 is still cloudy. Carriers such as SFR, Telstra and Optus usually make announcements ahead of Samsung, and they don't have it on the list of updates. Apparently, they are still waiting for confirmation from Samsung for the progress which is rather moving really slowly. In view of this, S3 users will have to stick to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Android 4.4.2 KitKat for now.
