"Breaking Bad" fans now have something to ease their pain for the departure of their beloved show, as stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul makes a hilarious return with a new video for the Emmys.
11 months after the end of the show, the chemistry of the pair, who played meth lab runners Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, could now be seen in a 6-minute video with comedy actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus that showrunner Vince Gilligan might approve, TIME said. The promo video was sponsored by Audi of America and featured the duo as pawnshop owners and stars of a reality show called "Barely Legal Pawn," NYDailyNews.com reported.
Cranston and Paul played the exact opposite of their brooding characters Walter and Jesse in the spot. The show's premise had Louis-Dreyfus intending to sell her very own Emmy to pay for an island. According to the "Veep" star in the video, her rather bold move was inspired by Celine Dion and when she drank too much rosé wine.
The fun starts when the duo tried everything they can to possibly lower the price of the beloved trophy. The pair even faked not knowing the "Seinfield" star. Cranston, who looked like a cartoonish version of one of the owners featured in reality shows like "Pawn Stars," immediately negate his earlier statement not knowing the actress in an interview clip afterwards by saying he actually has a crush on Louis-Dreyfus. The two then moved to making jokes about the merits of different levels of Emmy awards. Cranston implied that Louis-Dreyfus' Emmy would have cost higher if it was for a leading actress award instead, TIME recounted.
Louis-Dreyfus responded to this in defense and told the duo that best supporting roles are actually more challenging. She said with dignity, "Actually sometimes it's more work to be a supporting player," a statement which Paul--another best supporting role winner in the past--vehemently agreed with.
The video ends with the actress changing her mind about pawning off her award after realizing its sentimental value. A twist in the end had somewhat paid homage to Cranston and Paul's critically-acclaimed roles. When Louis-Dreyfus accidentally strayed at the back of the shop again, she saw Paul, who was earlier clad in overalls and a dirty white shirt, now in the iconic hazmat suit while pouring a gallon of a suspicious-looking liquid. Cranston then entered in the scene, donning a hazmat mask also iconic in "Breaking Bad." Although it was obvious that the two might have ventured in the meth business, it appears that the pawnshop owners had been running an unlicensed puppy-bathing business on the side instead.
Cranston and Paul are both nominated for Emmy's this year for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively for their roles in the final season of "Breaking Bad." Louis-Dreyfus is currently up for Best Leading Actress win for "Veep," BostonGlobe.com reported.
