"Doctor Strange" is set to bring about a big mess of changes to the Marvel Universe. In the comics, the character is a master of the mystical arts- in other words, magic. But so far, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, magic doesn't exist. Only cold hard science, practised by the likes of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.
But according to those in charge of the Marvel Universe, "Doctor Strange" will introduce magic into Tony Stark's world for the first time. Here's what Kevin Feige told Total Film about this very subject.
"We've now done the cosmic side with 'Thor' and 'Avengers' and most obviously with 'Guardians,' but there's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the interdimensional side of the Marvel universe, and Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own.
So 'Strange' is very, very important, not just because it's an amazing character study, and a journey of a man who's gone from this very arrogant surgeon to somebody who is quite zen and literally keeps all of reality together on a daily basis, but it also is going to open up a whole other side of storytelling for our movies."
Now, they just need to get the movie into theaters. Which is happening quickly- KpopStarz reports that the film has a release date of July 8, 2016 (it's not yet known if that's confirmed, though), and that the official casting announcements will come soon.
Among those rumored for the role are Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto, but a new name has just entered the fray- Jack Huston. This is Infamous broke the news, and while it's not yet clear which of these many actors is getting the role, Huston might just be the front-runner.
And, if you look at the picture of Huston up above, he certainly resembles Doctor Strange. That's got to be a plus.
