Tech enthusiasts are always looking for ways to improve the performance of powerful gadgets further. The Moto X is already a powerful beast as it is, thanks to its features and software out of the box, but users who want to speed it up even more can do a few things to improve its performance. Below are some tips to get the maximum speed out of the Moto X.
Turning Off Animations
The Moto X is capable of handling animations very well, but users that want to speed up their phones turn this off anyway to optimize speed. To do work with the animation, people need to access the Developer Options menu and enable it. According to Moto X Hub, people can do the Developer Options by going to Settings and navigating to About Phone. Tap on the selection for a number of times and wait for the prompt message: "You are now a developer."
In the Developer Options menu, find the Window, Transition, and Animator Animation Scale options. Select each one, and choose "Animation Off." This will speed up the performance of the Moto X.
Switch to ART
Older Android models use Dalvik runtime for running apps, but once the Android 5.0 L comes out, it will be running on the new Android runtime (ART). According to AndroidPit, Moto X users have the option to switch from Dalvik to ART, and the switch makes the phone faster. To do that, go to the Developer Options and choose Select Runtime, and pick "Use ART." Note that some apps are not yet compatible with ART and may not work now, but upon the release of Android L later this year, both old and new apps are expected to be ART-compatible.
Ditch the Widgets
Many apps come with widgets that can be added to the home screens for instant updates. This is great for on-the-go users who want to see their updates in one go. However, the constant background updates of these widgets slow down the performance of the Moto X. Removing widgets from the home screen will help improve the home screen performance.
As an added bonus, users can also take advantage of the voice control. According to Digital Trends, this allows the device to respond to the user even when on sleep mode. To access this, go to Menu and Open Settings. Access Touchless Control to allow OK Google Now to jump start the phone. Users can also tailor the phone to respond to their voice alone. To do this, go to Menu > Settings > Touchless Control > Train launch.
Always remember that the best way to keep the speed of the Moto X optimized is to update the firmware regularly. Each update comes with fixes and upgrades that improve system performance.
