Moto X to Receive Android L Update, Motorola X+1 (Moto X2) Release Imminent

By

It's official: Motorola has made the announcement that the Moto X will be receiving the Android L update, which is expected to be released later this year. The announcement is in line with Motorola's desire to establish their standing as the company that releases updates faster than their competition.

One of Motorola's executives, Punit Soni, confirmed the Android L update in an exclusive report by Android Origin. Punit Soni also directly confirmed with a user who posted a query about the Moto X update in his Google+ page, replying a simple "Yup" in the comments.

Punit Soni also expressed disappointment over the news posted by a user, David Burrows, regarding the scheduled release of the update: "US AT&T customers will see [Android] L roll out to phones around the same time that Google releases [Android] L." He noted that it was sad, adding "We really try to speed things up..." which is one of Motorola's main distinguishing characteristics.

Motorola and Nexus handsets are first in line to receive the said Android update. This is because both brands are owned by Google. Android L is currently available for download in beta version and developer preview for Nexus devices. The update is believed to be slated for a fall or year-end release.

Moto X+1 Rumored to be Released

A report from Droid Life claims that the Moto X+1, Motorola's latest handset, will be released on September 25 under Verizon. The site did not cite their source nor provide any further details about the said release. The site also recently reported a benchmark sighting of the device proving its imminent release. iDigitalTimes also reports the same date. Reports claim the Moto X+1 will be released along with Moto 360.

Reported features of the Moto X+1 have been leaked recently. Some of the features expected by users are a QualComm Snapdragon 801 processor (contrary to earlier reports of it sporting a Snapdragon 800), 32 GB internal memory with 2 GB RAM, 12 MP primary camera with a 5 MP front-facing camera, and a 5.2-inch screen with 1080p display.
