Jennifer Lawrence-Bradley Cooper team-up ending? 'Serena' may not hit US theaters; Long post-production hints film is in 'bad shape'

"Serena," which stars award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, has all the right ingredients to make it a best-seller. The film also stars her perennial onscreen partner Bradley Cooper. On the other hand, it has been said that although the movie, shot in 2012, would be heading to UK soon for distribution, pundits said there is a possibility that it may not come to US theaters.

The film, on paper, appeared to be a guaranteed screen hit, considering that the two have managed to successfully bring "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle" to commercial hits. Moreover, Lawrence and Cooper are joined by Sam Reid, Toby Jones, Sean Harris, and Rhys Ifans, with Mail Online listing them as an additional "strong supporting cast."

On the other hand, Latinos Post said that the movie is directed by "perfectionist" Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, with the story adapted from a 2008 bestselling novel by Ron Rash. The plotline itself is award-winning worthy, as it tackles a woman's descent into madness as she discovers her inability to become pregnant, while stressed about the presence of her husband's (Cooper) illegitimate son. The report said the movie "took about 18 months to finish," and that the long post-production process might indicate that the film "is in bad shape."

An insider allegedly told The Hollywood Reporter that the long post-production was just simply due to the director being a perfectionist. After all, Bier won an Oscar award for Best Foreign-language film back in 2011 for "In a Better World."

"It was just a real precision edit because the story is about a woman's descent into madness. We didn't want to be the OK version of the Jennifer Lawrence-Bradley Cooper coupling," the insider said.

To date, the movie does not have a US distributor, but according to THR, Fox Searchlight and The Weinstein Co. were interested in it primarily because it stars Lawrence. The film is slated for an October 24 release in the UK under StudioCanal, with plans to have it available in France next year, shares Cinema Blend.
