If the show returns for a third season, "Mistresses" could have one less mistress to feature as a cliffhanger of the show's finale, "Til Death Do Us Part," will leave fans wondering what could be in store for Joss and her supposed engagement.
TV Line says that "Mistresses" ended with plenty of cliffhangers, one of which is Joss "succumbing to her desires and tackling chiseled ex-brother-in-law Harry on the beach (all with sweet fiancé Scott waiting for her to come down the aisle)." This is after the character has been presented in the show's sneak peek with an almost instant marriage, which has triggered questions among fans.
According to Carter Matt, all the leads don't have to remain mistresses for the show to work, which could means there is a possibility for Joss to grab the opportunity to be instantly married. However, the article also mentions Joss to be having doubts that could lead to trouble. "It could even cause her to bolt in the end," the article stated.
Whether or not Joss potentially getting married will affect the storyline of the show, Carter Matt says that Joss not turning from engaged to married will "help when it comes to keeping things really interesting on a superficial level." However, the article also said that the show could go on a bolder direction. Said direction will require a lot of planning and detailing on the story, the article thinks, "to ensure that things never come apart at the seams."
However, if the ratings of the show don't get better, planning may not be necessary, as the show could be done, shares Enstarz. The article says that the 1.1 ratings of the show isn't very far from its first season ratings, and that the episode before the finale didn't do too well. In the show's defense, Enstarz says that it had the Emmy's awards night as its competition.
Enstarz says that the show's ratings aren't that great, but it is still doing better than other ABC shows such as "Rising Star" and "The Quest," which should give fans hope for a third season. This isn't a guarantee of its future yet though as the article says that it could be renewed for another year at best if it doesn't rake in better ratings.
