iPad Air 2 Rumors: Apple says company to unveil Gold iPad version on September 9; New tablet has Touch ID fingerprint sensor?

By

Apple will reportedly launch a new version of its popular iPad Air this year soon, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The news was also reported on both MacRumors and AppleInsider. Kuo has been the go-to tech insider when it comes to production news about the Cupertino, California-based company.

Although Apple will be having a media day on September where it is believed to be the press launch for its new iPhone 6 and smartwatch, it has been suggested that the release of the gold iPad Air tablet would be done as a separate event in October as "Gold iPad Day," according to MacRumors. Historically, Apple debuts its newest iPad models in October.

Gadget lovers are wondering if Apple can really cram so many gadgets releases in the span of a few months. Moreover, one would be skeptical about Apple purportedly releasing a gold iPad. On the other hand, the company did debut a gold iPhone 5S back then, which was launched exclusively in Asia. Photos of an alleged gold iPad also leaked around that time, 9to5Mac reported.

The iPad Air will reportedly adopt the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which debuted on the iPhone 5S had last year. Business Insider quoted Kuo about the upcoming iPad Air 2, who said, "In light of limited development resources and the fact that iPad Air contributes more to Apple's sales and earnings than iPad mini, we think that only iPad Air 2 will see a major upgrade in specs this year, including anti-reflective coating for the cover lens, full lamination for the touch panel, a gold-colored metal casing, an A8 processor, Touch ID/ fingerprint recognition and an 8-megapixel rear camera. iPad mini may be upgraded with fingerprint recognition, if any."

An Apple spokesperson declined to comment to Business Insider on Kuo's predictions for the iPad Air 2. Apple's media event would be covered live stream on Tuesday, September 9.
