'Game of Thrones' news roundup: Hodor will not be in season five, but Bran will be; George R. R. Martin expected to release new book in October, but not 'The Winds of Winter'

Fans of the HBO series "Game of Thrones" expressed mixed reactions upon the announcement that two characters will not be returning for season five. Following this revelation, fans were treated to another surprising news as author George R. R. Martin opted to release a "companion" book to the series instead of the much-awaited "The Winds of Winter."

Actor and DJ, Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor, has allegedly said that his character will not be in season five. This is according to Christian Today, who notes that the DJ is planning to extend his tour called "Rave of Thrones" in Australia.

It has been reported that Hodor and Bran Stark, played by Isaac Hempstead-Wright, will not be in season five, but according to Christian Today, the young actor allegedly worked for the season. "This suggested that his character will appear next season without his best buddy, Hodor," says Christian Today.

Winter is Coming shares that Bran's presence and Hodor's absence could mean a focus on "Bran's magical training more than his physical presence." Hempstead-Wright allegedly confirmed his presence in season five of "Game of Thrones" in an interview promoting his new movie, "The Boxtrolis."

Christian Today also adds that Bran and Hodor remain to be characters in George R.R. Martin's books, but are "given less priority and less exposure" to focus on other characters.

The show will be focusing Jon Snow faced with a major responsibility, says Ecumenical News. The series will also reveal Cersei Lannister's fate. Only recently, the filming commission of Dubrovnik, where "Game of Thrones" is shooting Cersei's scenes, has allegedly given permission to film the queen regent's naked walk of shame.

According to Nairn, Hodor's storyline "is up to the end of the books," which is affected by Martin's delayed book "The Winds of Winter." Ecumenical News shares that "Winds of Winter" allegedly involves the conclusion to Bran and Hodor's storylines.

However, the new book in the series takes a step back as Martin announced a new book to be released this October 26. Uproxx reports that the book to be released in October is "The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and The Game of Thrones," which Liberty Voice describes as a "vividly illustrated" work that documents the history of the world of Westeros, including significant historical events, the death of the "Mad King," and events leading up to the beginning of the television series.
