After the events in this week's episode of WWE SmackDown, anticipation is mounting for the matches set to happen in the "Night of Champions" on September 21. A report by Wrestling Inc. pointed out that the SmackDown episode was actually recorded on Tuesday night, September 9, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. It will air tonight, September 12.
Roman Reigns and Chris Jericho vs Seth Rollins and Randy Orton
In the evening's main event, Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns overcome Randy Orton and Seth Rollins in a tag-team match. Cagesideseats.com said Jericho concluded the match and the event by reversing Orton's "rope-hung" DDT (front facelock) and rolls Orton up for the win.
The Usos, Mark Henry and Big Show vs The Wyatt family
Tonight's episode of WWE (Friday Night) SmackDown kicks off with the Usos teaming up with the Big Show and Mark Henry to defeat the Wyatt Family's Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, Goldust and Stardust in an eight-man tag team match. Uproxx noted that it was odd for good-guy Goldust to team up with the Wyatt family, of which the site had dubbed as The cultist swamp-hillbillies who might be led by The Devil."
Bo Dallas vs Justin Gabriel
In the next match, Bo Dallas defeats Justin Gabriel despite Jack Swagger's ringside hecklings, nailing the South African with a "Bo-Dog," which is a wrestling springboard bulldog move with theatrics.
Paige vs Summer Rae
Paige defeats Summer Rae in a non-title match. Paige ridicules AJ Lee, who was on commentary during the bout. Paige concluded the match by performing AJ's signature "Black Widow," which is an octopus hold, to tap out Summer Rae in an effort send a message to the former champion.
Mark Henry vs Rusev
In the next match, Mark Henry overcomes Rusev in an International Arm-Wrestling contest. Rusev demands a rematch after the defeat. Henry acquiesced, and Rusev is about to taste defeat a second time when Lana flings powder into Henry's face, allowing the Bulgarian strongman to seize victory.
Dolph Ziggler and R-Truth vs The Miz and Damien Mizdow
Dolph Ziggler and R-Truth teamed up to win against the Miz and Damien Mizdow in a tag-team match. Wrestlezone.com declares this match as the best among all fights because of its entertaining factor. When Ziggler came out looking for a stunt double, R-Truth came out as Ziggler complete with the signature t-shirt, trunks and boots. Ziggler and Truth were copying each other's movements straight off a comedy sketch, which was later followed by The Miz and Damien Mizdow doing a similar thing. The latter were later stopped by Ziggler and Truth, probably not liking how the Miz and Mizdow has been copying them.
Nine nights after Friday's airing of SmackDown, each championship title will be defended on September 21 at the "Night of Champions", which will highlight the rematch between John Cena and Brock Lesnar following Cena's defeat at last month's SummerSlam. It has been suggested that the WWE Management is looking for a challenger for Brock Lesnar should he successfully defend his title against John Cena in the "Night of Champions". According to an F4wonline report as cited by Wrestling Inc., the Big Show is purportedly in line to take on Lesnar.
But of course, it's not the only match that fans are looking forward to. Here's the current lineup of matches in the "Night of Champions" card:
