It's official! Naughty Dog is coming out with a second "The Last of Us" game. Which, let's face it, everyone expected anyway, given how unbelievably popular the original "The Last of Us" was. It's even being made into a movie at this very moment.
The news originally comes from Hypable, who found a salient quote from "The Last of Us" director Neil Druckmann. Here's the quote: "We're playing with some ideas, but no direction has been set yet for the next game."
Hypable's claim is that Druckmann wouldn't be mentioning a "next game" if they had no sequel plans for "The Last of Us." Makes sense, doesn't it?
Now, KDrama Stars confirms what Hypable first reported, claiming the game is officially confirmed. Their reports state that during the recent PAX Prime Expo, it was stated on the official record that "The Last of Us 2" is in development. They also report that early concept art for the game was shown, and that "The Last of Us 2" has a tenative release date of 2016. The game is said to be a top priority for Naughty Dog.
KpopStarz has a quote from Druckmann, on the status of the game:
"It's kind of like how we approached Left Behind," Druckmann said. "Can we tell people a story that's really worth telling, and that's not repeating itself? And if we can't, where can we get inspired--what is something that's really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?"
Later, Druckmann added: "We tried lifting the constraints and said, 'what if we could make anything? what's exciting to us?' and that became TLOU. BUT the door is never fully shut though... there's always a possibility..."
Seems like Naughty Dog has some big ideas for the next "The Last of Us."
