Anything that's popular gets made into a movie these days. So it should come as no surprise that "The Last of Us," last year's unbelievable smash hit game for Playstation 3 (and now, Playstation 4) is being given the movie treatment.
The game follows two survivors of a post-apocalyptic threat- Joel and Ellie. The two have to survive in a world where humanity has been destroyed by a brain fungus that turns human beings into mutant rage monsters, as well as human survivors that would rather kill and steal than work together to rebuild society.
One thing's for sure, however. Unlike some game-to-film adaptations that play fast and loose with the story, "The Last of Us" will be hewing very closely to the tale told in the original game. In an interview with IGN, "The Last of Us" creator Neil Druckmann confirmed this.
"It's an adaptation of the story of 'The Last of Us,' said Druckmann. "As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film... We're not sure yet. We're only just scratching the surface."
Druckmann also commented on the status of the next "The Last of Us" game, which is all but guaranteed, given the first's success.
"We don't know yet," he said. "We're still trying to figure it out. We're brainstorming some stuff, so we'll see where that goes."
Casting, however, is still up in the air. According to KpopStarz, the most likely candidates for Joel and Ellie are Gerard Butler and Ellen Page, which makes sense- both are talented actors, and both are very similar in appearance to Joel and Ellie in the game.
However, Latin Times has Hugh Jackman and "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams as front-runners for the same roles.
Which casting report is true? It's not quite clear. Maisie Williams has officially confirmed that she's entered talks for the film, but that's not concrete proof that she's been cast- nor does it apply to any other of the potential stars.
We'll just have to wait and see. Check back soon for any updates on who'll be starring in "The Last of Us."
