"The Young & The Restless" star Michael Muhney will not be returning as Adam Newman for good. This is after talks with the producers allegedly almost had him back, which immediately got botched after the cast expressed their disagreement.
According to Radar Online, Michael Muhney was forced to relinquish his role as Adam Newman after the actor allegedly groped the breasts of co-star Hunter Tyler King. No formal charges were filed against Newman, who denied the incident, says Celeb Dirty Laundry.
However, eight months after the incident, the Radar Online reports that producers secretly wanted him back. Unfortunately, Muhney's return is not met with smiling faces as the cast allegedly rallied against the decision and even went as far as saying they will stop working if Muhney returns.
This is from a Radar Online who shared that the producers of the show and Muhney's representatives have been talking since earlier this summer. The actor allegedly wants to come back and is "willing to do whatever it took to make everyone comfortable." The source said that the cast found out then, and they began a rally. Doug Davidson and the cast "felt betrayed by the move," shared the source.
Also from the same source: "Everyone had moved on from the difficult time, so for this to be happening was shocking. The cast said if Muhney was re-hired, they would essentially boycott and not film."
Though most of the cast has been against his return, Inquisitr says that Sharon Case (Sharon Newman) wanted him back. The two seemed to have remained friends even after Muhney was ousted from the CBS show, and have even been seen in Hawaii together with their families months ago.
Following the threat to boycott, the producers decided to go a different direction with the casting, and have gone with "Mistresses" and "Revenge" star Justin Hartley. According to Radar Online, Hartley has already been filming for several weeks and will be seen in character in November.
Muhney, who played the role of Newman for years, is considered by Music Times as "one of the most popular actors on the show". Muhney allegedly encourages fans to support Hartley and have made peace with his exit, shares Celeb Dirty Laundry.
With his "Y & R" days over, Enstarz says the actor is enjoying his life. According to the article, the actor had recently been in Australia for an Oz-Con gaming convention with Orlando Bloom.
