"Captain America 3" is still pretty far behind on the Marvel timeline. First, we've got to get through "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Ant-Man" next summer, and only then will we see Cap's newest adventure in 2016.
But that doesn't mean Marvel can't tell us what the title is.
According to MoviePilot, Marvel may announce the official title for "Captain America 3" very soon. And while no one has any official on what that title is, MoviePilot has five possible options.
"Sentinel of Liberty"
"The Red Menace"
"The Secret Empire"
"Civil War"
"Fallen Son"
Each, naturally, is based off a classic "Captain America" comic storyline- just like "Winter Soldier" was the basis for the last Cap flick (kind of obvious, given that the subtitle was "The Winter Soldier").
But out of the five, "Civil War" might be the likliest option. Christian Post recently put out their own story on maybe-titles for "Captain America 3," and the biggest contender they highlight is, once again, "Civil War."
Christian Post claims that the title has officially been locked down by Marvel, along with the script for the next "Captain America," and that "Civil War" would be an excellent way to change around the Marvel Universe.
In the comics, "Civil War" was a massive standoff between Iron Man and Captain America, with Iron Man arguing that superheroes should register their secret identities, and Captain America stating the opposite. Both sides built up a following of superheroes and ended up battling it out through multiple comics.
HNGN has a recent quote from co-director Joe Russo about the next Cap film:
"We're not gonna get away from some of that tone, we like a very grounded approach to the character," Russo said. "We like long lenses. We like handheld camera work. That stuff's not going away. But what can we bring that's fresh to the table from an execution standpoint, from a relationship standpoint, and from a storytelling standpoint? You don't want them to say, 'I saw this movie two years ago and it was called The Winter Soldier.'"
Sounds like they've got something really special in mind.
