Dirk Nowitzki's exceptional work ethic and desire to get better every summer has been well documented in the NBA and it is one of the traits that make him truly one of the greatest to have ever played the game. Even now at 36 years of age, Nowitzki is still improving his overall game and is reportedly working on speeding up his shot release according ESPN's Marc Stein:
"I don't think, to the naked eye, you would see it," Nowitzki told ESPN.com. "I don't know if the [average] fan will see the difference. But I'm always trying to get better, and this is just a little tool for me to shoot a little quicker. We'll see how it works during the season."
Nowitzki is working with long time trainer Geschwinder in Germany for his improved shot release who sites Golden State's star point guard Steph Curry standard-setter for getting shots off rapid-fire. Geschwinder, who taught Dirk the patented one-legged fadeaway, believes that Nowitki can become adept in releasing his shot at a much faster rate just like Curry as long as he sticks with it.
The Big German is still an effective scorer at this point in his career. He was the number one scorer for the Dallas Mavericks last season averaging 21.7 points and 6.2 rebounds last season in leading Dallas back to the playoffs, shooting .497 from the field, .398 from 3-point range and .899 from - almost achieving his second career 50/40/90 season. He was also the Mavs go to guy in clutch situations.
Dirk is also positioned to pass multiple legends in the NBA's All-time scoring list in the coming 2014-15 season. He bumped Oscar Robertson for the 10th spot last season and is set to move up to at least seventh place barring any unforeseen injury. He could crack in the top 5 before he retires and joins the leagues hall of fame.
The Dallas Mavericks have been busy this offseason signing key free agents including Chandler Parsons and Jameer Nelson. If Nowitzki becomes successful in speeding up his shot release this summer then we may be seeing a potent Mavs squad with an even lethal Dirk leading the way.
