ClamCase Pro turns the iPad Air into a MacBook clone

By

The ClamCase Pro for iPad Air is a redesign of their previous keyboard cases - it's thinner, lighter, and it feels more premium than its predecessors. Have a look at its most striking features below.

First Impressions

The ClamCase Pro for iPad Air looks premium because of its materials - ZDNet's review cites that these materials make the construction of the keyboard case first-rate. The keyboard itself is features an aluminum enclosure, with a look similar to the MacBook's keyboard. The snap-on case for the iPad Air is made of scratch-resistant polycarbonate, which protects the iPad Air sufficiently. The soft touch coating connecting the snap-on case and the keyboard completes the look, providing additional grip to the unit while allowing the 360-degree hinge to move freely.

Performance

According to the ClamCase Pro for iPad Air's product page, the keyboard transforms into three modes: a laptop mode, where users can type using the attached keyboard in the case; a hands-free touch screen mode, where the keyboard serves as a stand and users can use the iPad Air freely; and the tablet mode, where users can flip the keyboard behind the iPad Air and it will automatically shut down, letting the user use the iPad Air as they normally would without the attachment.

ZDNet notes that the case features an LED light above the keyboard that tells users of different functions, from battery life and charging status, to letting users know the Caps Lock on/off status. The layout of the keyboard itself features standard key placement, as noted by both ZDNet and CNET reviews, making it easier for users to type. Special keys are also present on top of the keyboard to control the iPad Air's media player, go to the Home screen quickly, and make cutting, copying, and pasting text easier.

The Down Side

The ClamCase Pro for iPad Air basically received positive reviews, with only two setbacks mentioned: ZDNet notes that the cutouts for the iPad Air controls and ports are too small, making charging with a cable other than that provided by Apple impossible and making it difficult to use earphones. Cnet, on the other hand, notes that the ClamCase Pro for iPad Air is a bit expensive compared to other keyboard cases for the iPad Air. Other than that, the ClamCase Pro for iPad Air comes highly recommended.

The ClamCase Pro for iPad Air retails for $169.
