Security has been a pressing issue for Apple devices, especially with the release of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are not an exemption. According to The Daily Mail, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both feature a hidden function that logs a user's location, storing and analyzing the information to improve suggestions and decisions it makes for users.
The UK Daily points out that this is not entirely a new feature - the Frequent Locations underline was introduced over a year ago. Additionally, tracking features have been present since iOS 6. Additionally, The Daily Mail cites Apple saying the feature asks for users' permission before sending information, and that it was created to improve mapping services.
According to the Business Insider, users booting up the iOS 8 for the first time on their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s will be asked for permission to turn on location tracking. Users who have already booted their iOS 8 and have given their permission can opt out of the tracking feature by following these steps:
1. Go to the phone's settings and find the Privacy menu. Users will have to keep scrolling down to find it - it's near the bottom of the list.
2. Navigate to Location Services. Tap on the menu, and then tap on the green switch to switch off location tracking.
3. Below the Location Services switch, users have the option to change individual location tracking permissions for each app installed. Click on each application and change the permission settings to stop the app from transmitting locations from the phone.
4. Go back to the Privacy menu, and scroll down to the Advertising menu. This can be found at the bottom of the Privacy menu.
5. Inside the Advertising menu is an option that reads "Limit Ad Tracking." This is turned off by default, making the phone transmit location information to ad providers. Turn this on to switch off location tracking - make sure to see the green switch.
6. Below the "Limit Ad Tracking" option is a link that reads "Reset Advertising Identifier." Click on it, and then click on the "Reset Identifier" button to clear past web activities.
