When iOS 8 first came out, the Internet was abuzz with all the wonderful new features that Apple has included in their latest mobile operating system. But as soon as it was released, users noticed one feature missing, and so did different blogs and news sites: the Camera Roll.
A Business Insider report says that Apple has, in fact, removed the Camera Roll, and that this removal has "made a lot of people very angry." The loss of this feature has caused people to downgrade to iOS 7 or keep complaining about the loss, reports BGR.
Saving Photos "Deleted by Mistake"
Business Insider revealed that Apple has replaced the Camera Roll with two new folders: Recently Added, and Recently Deleted. This, BGR explains, is Apple's way of giving its users the option to retrieve images that were "deleted by mistake."
New photos taken will be saved to the Recently Added folder. When a user deletes an image from this folder, it will be transferred to the Recently Deleted photo. Files in this folder will be automatically deleted after 30 days unless the user deletes its contents manually. Business Insider adds that Apple has integrated the Camera Roll with the the iCloud's Photo Stream.
Having the Recently Added and Recently Deleted folders mean users will have to delete photos twice. It also gives users difficulty knowing which images have already been backed up on iCloud. Finally, photos taken before the iOS 8 upgrade will be scattered in a user's Collections.
App Compatibility Trouble
Tom's Guide points out that the loss of the Camera Roll also causes problems with several third-party apps accessing images. They cite WhatsApp as an example, which is unable to find pictures after an iOS 8 upgrade.
The suggestion that Tom's Guide gives is to create a new album and gather the photos scattered in Collections. This puts the images in one folder, making it easy for both users and third-party apps to find. According to their report, many users have tried reporting the problem through Apple's website, but they have failed because of an error in the customer feedback form.
The loss of the Camera Roll is only the latest in complaints received by the iOS 8. Apple recently released the iOS 8.0.2 update, which addresses problems like disabling cellular service and breaking their Touch ID feature.
