Behind Oscar Pistorius sentencing lies father's emotional story on son's relationship; Did sprinter's ex-girlfriend contacted Pistorius before Steenkamp shot?

By

Oscar Pistorius is set to face a decade and a half of life sentencing that would begin soon after Judge Thokozile Masipa orders him guilty of culpable homicide for killing his ex-girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp during the dawn of Valentine's Day of 2013. The sprinter's father admitted he has been too hard on his son.

61-year old Henke Pictorius admitted that he had not gotten the chance of speaking with his son since he shot Steenkamp, reportedly. "We've said in various conversations and SMSes [text messages] we must get together and have a long talk," the sprinter's father told the press. "Since the tragedy he hasn't had a decent talk with me. He has not yet talked to me from his heart. I know it's going to happen. It's going to happen soon and it will be good for both of us."

On an obvious note, this incident is a burden to any parents, especially to Henke. Mr. Pistorius had emotionally spoken that he had been too strict to Pistorius admitting, "Perhaps I was sometimes too hard on Oscar. I was strict." Thereafter, he reveals that just like any other responsible parent he needed to be more focused on working even on tough days and earn money for the family.

"The time just after Oscar was born, when we realised he was different from other little kids, was harder for me," Henke expressed the pain he feels since raising his son with disability. "When I had to make decisions that could make or break his life."

Meanwhile, Jenna Edkins, who was Oscar's ex-girlfriend before Steenkamp, is said to have been texting him prior to the time of the incident, as reported on Independent.

On the report of Independent, the number she used was her father's, and the Paralympian's phone shows that her father's number was coded as "Babyshoes", which purportedly addressed to Edkins.

This has not been exposed during the trials, as it was only revealed on "Behind the Door" book written by Barry Bates of Eyewitness News and Mandy Wiener.

On Bateman's tweet last October 2, he reveals, "#OscarPistorius handset's entire call history and WhatsApp record was deleted, as well as several messages received after the shooting."

However, this has not been an impact on the court, and neither Pistorius nor his brother, who is purported to be the one who deleted the call history, was charged of any crime.

Oscar Pistorius will be facing 15 years of life sentencing, which begins on Monday, October 13.
