The PlayStation game "The Last of Us" is headed to the big screen, but nothing about the actors to play the leads has been revealed yet.
According to KpopStarz, it is confirmed that the successful PlayStation game will be heading to theaters, but there is still no details on who will be playing the lead characters. Game creator Neil Druckmann made the movie confirmation through IGN back in March. Druckmann, who will be writing the script for the movie, did not offer any insight on what route they are going to take with the movie, though director Sam Raimi expressed a desire to follow the route of the game. "As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film... We're not sure yet. We're only just scratching the surface," Druckmann shared.
Druckmann could make a good script for the movie if he follows the same thinking put into the game. When asked about the game, The Telegraph reports Druckmann saying, "I'd been thinking about parents and the kind of inexplicable love they have for their children. How probably when push comes to shove, they'd do unspeakable things to protect their children. Can we, I thought, make the player feel the same way?"
Fans of the game will not be disappointed to know that director Sam Raimi has spoken at the San Diego Comic-Con that the movie will follow the story of the game. "It's gonna be a great character story, a great love story and a great horror film," IB Times has Raimi saying. IB Times summarizes: "The story follows the perilous journey of Joel and Ellie, two survivors of a post-apocalyptic fungal plague that turned most of humanity into zombies. The two heroes must find the cure to the plague while staying alive." The Telegraph further details, "It has a gruff protagonist with a grim past, accompanied by a courageous teenager fighting for survival." The game is also set 20 years into the future.
While waiting for the official cast to be revealed, fans are naming the actors that they think will fit the characters of the game. KpopStarz notes that Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman are frontrunners for the role of Joel, while Chloe Grace Moretz, Ellen Page, Maisie Williams, and Elle Fanning are considered by fans to be perfect as Ellie.
IB Times predicts that the movie will be released in 2016 if filming starts in 2015.
