Canadian phone manufacturer, BlackBerry is set on getting back to the game. After completing a restructuring process, the company is determined to win a niche in the great smartphone market game by focusing on business-oriented devices.
The mobile phone manufacturer's latest move was the release of its BlackBerry Passport last September 24. "Because we based the phone on the format of a passport, there's a sense of familiarity when you hold it in your hand. Passport is all about working wide." BlackBerry CEO John Chen explained during an event in Toronto. The phone is supposed to go against the grain of the narrow smartphone trend prominent in the market at present (via ABCNews).
The phone, which can show 60 characters per line on its screen for easier reading, writing, and editing is aimed towards businessmen who have challenges with narrow and small screens. The model sold out on Amazon within six hours of its release with BlackBerry receiving around 200,000 orders as of September 26.
Following this line of success, BlackBerry Devices and Emerging Solutions President, Ron Louks said in an interview with Reuters that a number of their upcoming products will definitely have the "wow" factor to them. He further hinted about an upcoming "unconventional device" that has apparently been praised by carriers. According to him, their future handsets will be easier to use with only one hand, an issue which has been one of the main criticisms about the Passport.
TechRadar reports that this unconventional device could possibly be one among the three devices that Chen hinted to debut in the 2015 Mobile World Congress. Two of the other products are the BlackBerry Passport 2 and another "Classic" model following the vein of the BlackBerry Q20.
The BlackBerry Classic is described as a Bold-looking phone equipped with BlackBerry10 features. The device will come with a 3.5-inch display, a built-in 2GB Ram, and a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. It will run via the BlackBerry 10.3 operating system and is rumored to be the thinnest of the BlackBerry models ever.
What sets it apart from past phones of the brand, however, is its powerful 13-megapixel camera which the Canadian manufacturer is currently testing, to see if it can record 4k quality videos. The model is rumored to be released this November, as per a report by Christian Today.
