Enough with the backtracking, yes/no issue that is "Iron Man 4". "There's a place for everything and everything in its place," so the saying goes. Nevertheless, fans will have none of that with another of Robert Downey Jr.'s characters, Sherlock Holmes.
Downey, to promote his film "The Judge", due out tomorrow, took to Reddit to answer several questions from fans and one of them asked, "will we ever see a Sherlock 3?"
"Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that's a pretty tall order," Downey replied. "Also, Perry Mason is a property I'm looking forward to developing further, going back to the 1931 book series...similarly to what we did with the first 2 Sherlocks, mining the original material for things that are 'new.'"
Apparently, it's on the same page with an update co-star Jude Law offered late last year.
"We had a meeting earlier this year, the three of us," Law told Digital Spy, "and I think it's being written now. Warner Bros have still got to agree to pay for it... I think they want to!"
In an earlier interview last year with British film magazine Empire, Law talked about the production progress. "It's a slow process," he said. "We're all busy. So getting us together to try to nail that has taken a little bit longer than we had hoped."
All the same, the English actor said that there is a collective enthusiasm for the project, given the earlier films' success. "I think Warners (sic) want it, and there's a lot of want from us as a team. We want it to be better than the other two. We want to make sure it's smarter and cleverer, but in the same realm, "Law told Empire. "I hate celebrating anything I've done, but I'm so proud of those films. I think it was Joel Silver who said, 'Take it out of that dusty room and put it on the street'."
"Sherlock Holmes" is a 2009 action-mystery film based on the character of the same name created by Scottish physician and writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Robert Downey, Jr. plays the titular character, and Jude Law portrays Dr. John Watson. A sequel, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows", was released in 2011. Both were commercially successful worldwide and received positive critical reviews.
