Marriage counseling is a universally appreciated thing, right? It's not like there's some group of people decrying marriage counselors as a plague on society?
You have a problem with your marriage, you see a counselor. And that's a good thing.
Except... when your marriage counselors are your wife's parents.
That's exactly what's happening with the Duggars, of "19 Kids and Counting." Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard, according to Christian Today, are expecting their first child- and to help cope with these upcoming responsibilties, they've been using Jill's parents as marriage counselors on a weekly basis.
Christian Post ran a quote from Michelle Duggar on the matter.
"The four of us meet on a weekly basis for counseling," said Michelle. "I believe it is our responsibility to equip our children to be prepared for that next step in life of marriage."
Christian Post also gives us further details on this slightly odd arrangement of parent/child marriage counseling.
Apparently, in the latest episode of "19 Kids and Counting," Michelle and Jim Bob sat down with Jill and Derrick at a frozen yogurt shop for their weekly counseling session.
Some of the advice that was given out: always pull out your wife's chair for her when she sits down, have an emergency fund and have an emergency emergency fund (Jim Bob stressed the importance of emergency funds).
Also, the most important lesson here is probably: don't accept marriage counseling from your in-laws. Or your parents.
In Touch Weekly adds to the story, stressing that the Duggars weren't talking about sex during this particular marriage counseling session. Or, as the Duggars put it, "intimate activities." But that's bound to come up at some point, sadly.
