GTA V Online has been losing considerably according to We Live Security. The site has cited a Yahoo! News report saying that many gamers complained about the most recent hacking attack on Twitter.
Changing Course
Yahoo! News points out the change in course game hackers have taken over the years. There was once a time when many players could benefit from their exploits and money mods, making loot, surplus cash, and other premium game items available to all players. Lately, however, hackers have been using their exploits and money mods for their own personal gain, robbing millions of dollars' worth of game loot and weapons won by the players fair and square.
Several of the reports on Rockstar Games' official Support forum detail the hacking. One report from user KmmGamerForever cited losing cash and weapons, including special edition weapons; the hacker changing his car's color without a garage, and blowing up the hacked account's apartment. The user notes that while he does not have proof of hacking because he does not record his gameplay, he knows he was hacked "Because he said it on his microphone."
"Please give back my cash and weapons i'm your Special edition customer I took lots of effort to earn those weapons and money Do Reply," KmmGamerForever wrote.
Do Not Expect Reimbursements, Says Rockstar
A member of the Rockstar staff responded to one of the complaints on behalf of the company, suggesting that while they will investigate the hacking incidents that have taken place recently, players may not expect to get back what they've lost. This response was reported by Yahoo! News.
"I am really sorry to hear this. Rockstar will definitely look into this. However, they may not be able to reimburse you with your weapons and/ or GTAs. Also, if you have any evidence such as photographs or videos of the player cheating/ modding, I'd recommend submitting a request with them so that Rockstar can deal with them," said the response.
Yahoo! News reports that GTA Online players to log out from their current sessions if they notice something amiss, and play in private sessions instead. Players are also advised against staying in public lobbies to avoid hacking baits and other traps set by the hackers.
