Voting for the upcoming Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2014 has finally opened today and there are plenty of surprising results in the current standings.
As of this article, the current leader for Best New Artist category is WINNER who is YG Entertainment's new group with a total of 34.6% of votes.
In the Best Male Artist category Taeyang of Big Bang is in a commanding lead with 48.5% of votes while Ailee is on top of the Best Female Artist and Best Dance Performance Solo category with 34.1% and 31.3% of votes respectively.
On the Best Male Group category, EXO takes top spot with 30.8% of votes while Super Junior is a close second place with 28.4% of votes. For Best Female Group it's 2NE1 on the number one spot with a commanding 29.3% of votes while Girls' Generation is second place with 24.5% of votes.
CNBLUE's "Can't Stop" propels them to the top spot of the Best Band Performance category with a stunning 49.9% of votes while the closest competition who is FTISLAND's "Madly" is at 16.2% of votes.
Epik High is also dominating the Best Rap Performance category with their hit "Happen Ending" garnering 48% of votes while Gary's "Shower Later" has only 25.5% of votes.
The Best Music Video category is a closer race with 2PM's "Go Crazy!" at the top with 29.9% votes, Girl's Generation's "Holler" in a close second with 25.8% votes, and Block B's "Jackpot" in third place with 23% votes.
As of this article, there are 272,731 total votes with South East Asia attributing 54.4% of the votes, South Korea with 29.4%, while the remaining percentage are distributed to other participating countries like China, USA, Japan, and so on. You can view the current results of the voting here.
MAMA started on 1999 to celebrate the top music videos of the year. It had gone under various name changes over the years like Mnet Music Video Festival (MMF) in 2000 and Mnet KM Music Video Festival (MKMF) in 2004.
MAMA was Asia's representative music festival and awards ceremony in 2009 and a year later the MAMA held its first overseas ceremony in Macau.
