The New Orleans Pelicans will head to Cleveland to face LeBron James and the Cavaliers Monday night on November 10, 2014. The game will tip off at 6 p.m Central, Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland. The Pelicans (3-2) were able to steal a victory against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday on rising star Anthony Davis's game-winning layup with 6.6 seconds to go in the final period. It was their first win at the AT&T Center since 2010. Now they hit the road again to face the star studded Cavaliers.
"It feels good, but (our) work is ahead of us," Pelicans fifth-year head coach Monty Williams said minutes after the final buzzer Saturday, per NBA.com's Game Preview. "I'll enjoy this for another hour, and then I'm on to Cleveland... I don't want to rain on the parade. This is a big win for us, and now we've got to use it to build on."
Davis has been stellar so far early in the season and has looked like a serious MVP candidate against the Spurs. The Pelicans will need his production when they face the Cavs especially when the game is on the line. Eric Gordon has showed signs of life on Saturday after a dreadful shooting slump where he was a combined 4-26 in the previous three games. Against the Spurs, Gordon was able to score 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting. The team also forced the defending champions to 19 turnovers and they will have to show the same demeanor in the defense if they want to contain James, Kryrie Irving, and the rest of the Cavaliers who are loaded with offensive minded players.
The Cavaliers, on the other hand, are slowly figuring out how to play with each other after struggling against the Utah Jazz last week in a game where they only managed to tally six assists in four quarters. In their 110-101 win against the Denver Nuggets on Friday, James was able to utilize his play making skills putting up 11 assists and 22 points. The recipe for success for Cleveland seems to lie on ball movement and that means point guard Kyrie Irving must be willing to expand his game beyond scoring.
Cleveland is the favorite in this match-up, laying -6.0 points here at home. The Total has been posted at Over/Under 201.5 per Pro Cappers.
