The San Antonio Spurs are off to a rough 2-3 start early in the season - their worst in five years. The team lost to a seemingly hungrier New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday after emerging Pelicans star Anthony Davis made a game winning lay up with 6.6 seconds to go in the final period. The Spurs were also sloppy with the ball committing 19 turn overs.
"I understand a year after winning the championship you're going to get everyone's best shot," coach Gregg Popovich said per ESPN's game preview. "I believe we're out there playing hard and I believe things just haven't gone out way."
According to the ESPN game preview, the Los Angeles Clippers (4-2), are in the same situation with San Antonio in the season's early going. The Clippers have unexpectedly struggled in their first four games but managed to breakout in their early funk Saturday with a 106-102 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. But prior to the victory against Portland, the team was pretty much underachieving. They beat an undermanned Oklahoma City who are without Russel Westbrook and Kevin Durant, a winless Lakers and Utah by an average of 5.3 points and lost to surprising Sacramento before getting blown out at Golden State on Wednesday.
"We came out this year like we won something last year and everyone else came out like they got their heart broken," center DeAndre Jordan said. "We just needed to get back to what got us to where we were last year."
