If you look at their current record and how their roster is built, the New York Knicks are probably not going to reach the playoffs when the 2014-15 regular season ends. In the offseason, however, Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher will surely be able to retool the Knicks into a better basketball machine with a wealth of cap room to sign marque free agents.
With all names slated to be free agents in 2015, Paul Millsap seems to be the likely addition in the next chapter of New York basketball. When asked if there would be any interest in reuniting with his former teammate from the Utah Jazz who is now the head coach of New York, Millsap told the New York Post:
"I know Fish. I played with Fisher for a year. He's always been a good friend for me - not surprised at all he's coaching. A great guy, always been a great locker-room guy. Knows the game well. I knew it would happen at some point."
And when asked about playing in New York, Millsap said:
"Anywhere could be an option. But my loyalty right now is in Atlanta. Free agency is free agency. When it happens, I'll weigh my options and see where I'm at. But I'm happy in Atlanta right now.''
Paul Millsap may not be thinking about free agency right now but next summer he will surely be receiving plenty of calls from numerous teams around the league who are searching for an agile power forward who doesn't back away from physicality, a capable shooter from everywhere on the floor, and a versatile front court weapon who can play with his back to the basket.
And when free agency starts, the Knicks will surely make a run at Millsap according to Hoops Habit:
With Amar'e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani most likely playing their final seasons in a Knicks uniform, New York will seek to secure Millsap's services as well. He could be another player to operate in whatever the Knicks are running; it hasn't looked much like the triangle.
Whether the New York Knicks will run a triangle or any other offensive scheme next season, Paul Millsap will surely help them advance their cause. He is a blue-collar player who will surely make the team better no matter how you see it.
