Netflix on 'Longmire:' "We were intrigued because the series is so unique, and consistently great." Season 4 to be available on Netflix summer 2015

After being cancelled on A&E, "Longmire" will be continuing into its fourth season with 10 new episodes thanks to Netflix.

Christian Today reports, "After the record-breaking clamor of 'Longmire' fans to keep the show afloat, Netflix announced that they are bringing back the crime drama for another season." "Longmire" had a loyal following, averaging 5.6 million viewers for season 3, making it A&E's most-viewed original series, says the article.

Because of its high ratings, Oregon Live shares that the show's cancellation was met with "dismay and confusion." In explanation, the article says, "As numerous industry sources have reported, the series apparently became dispensable to A&E because its viewers were considered too old. That is, they were outside the 18-49 demographic that advertisers value above all else."

The show's former network, A&E, have announced the cancellation of the show before its final episode aired on August 4. The cancellation was met by an outpour of support and a demand for a fourth season to be continued, which prompted Warner Horizon to search for a new home for the show.

Netflix, as represented by Vice President for Original Content, Cindy Holland, announced in a press release dated November 19, "We were intrigued because the series is so unique, and consistently great."

According to Christian Today, season 4 will pick up after season 3's ending where Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) found out who was behind the murder of his wife and had gone on a journey of vengeance. Aside from Taylor, the cast of the show also includes Cassidy Freeman, Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Adam Bartley, and Bailey Chase.

"Longmire" is based off Craig Johnson's mystery novels, Breathe Cast shares.

Wyoming Business Report names Johnson to have been active in trying to get the show back on air. The article mentions, "The tweet-storm, fanned by Ucross author Craig Johnson, who pens the 'Longmire' mystery series, used the hashtags #Longmire, #Longmire4ever and #LongLiveLongmire." The fans, or "Longmire Posse" as the online world calls them, has waited two months before Netflix announced that it will pick up the show for another season.

The series is reported to have 10 episodes for season 4 to be available on Netflix next summer.
